I have just finished it and feel, just as with The History of Love that I will have to re-read it to make everything more clear. However, I want to know one thing NOW! Do we know who Teddy's father is? Have I missed the point?

Hi Valerie, thanks for your comment! YES, I agree, this one is a great choice for late spring or summer. There are several parts of the book that take place near the ocean -- off the North Carolina coast, and in Galveston -- and Becca has a fascination with fish for a while, so there's a strong beach / ocean / summer feel to much of the book. Hope you're able to squeeze it in! :-)

Last summer, I found an ARC of this in a Goodwill store in California (I was visiting a friend for a few days, and she likes to prowl Goodwills for books). I'm reminded of it now from your review, and it seems like it'd be a good summer read, so I'll see if I can fit it in this summer!

Funny that you loved Vowell's Partly Cloudy Patriot ... I tried reading her The Wordy Shipmates, but just couldn't get into it. That's the type of book I'd try to trade in at my local used bookstore :-P . Like yours, though, they take books based on supply and demand; if too many copies of one title they won't take it but always suggest trying again in the future.

hi Marie! I love the library as a great resource to test out books on my "to read" list. Low commitment, and if I love it I can always buy it.

Plus, the due date gives me a deadline. I have to read it by then or give up on it, which keeps it from lingering on the shelf.

Good topic! Having recently weeded out quite a few books, I have a definite opinion on this!

When I went to week through the few hundred books I have, I took a hard look at each book and decided if I'd really seriously read it in the future. Sometimes you buy a book having every intention of reading it, but years later your tastes have changed and it just doesn't hold the same appeal. Sometimes I picked up a book on a whim, not sure if I'd read it or not, but wanting the book just the same. Sometimes I picked up a book on a recommendation, and on closer inspection I decide that with all the other great books out there, I probably won't read this book anyway.

I'm pretty ruthless when I clean out my shelves, but books pile up so quickly that it's hard to keep it under control.

Wow, I am impressed by your reading list! It doesn't matter if you did not "meet" the online challenges. You did read a lot. Congratulations!

I can only get inspired by you and resolve to read more this year. I have been lazy in that area. In the first week of 2011, however, I have browsed a few bookstores in Cambridge and Waltham! Marie, This Horner's Syndrome does seem like a very curious thing, but it is also interesting to learn about. Yes, it is a good thing that this turned out to be a kind of "warning" for an underlying health issue (i.e. what caused the carotid artery dissection). I hope it is something the doctors can figure out and fix soon enough! I also hope you are feeling fine otherwise. In the meantime, I just wanted to say Hi and Thanks for all your comments on my blog. Take Care!
